About the Author
Arun K. Ghosh received his BS and MS in Chemistry at the University of Calcutta and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. (1985) at the University of Pittsburgh. He then pursued post-doctoral research with Professor E. J. Corey at Harvard University (1985-1988). He was a research fellow at Merck Research Laboratories prior to joining the University of Illinois, Chicago as an assistant Professor in 1994. In 2005, he moved to Purdue University where he is currently the Ian P. Rothwell Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry. His notable honors include: ACS Medicinal Chemistry Hall of Fame, National Institutes of Health MERIT Award, CRSI medal from the Chemical Research Society of India, IUPAC Richter Award, ACS Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, ACS Robert Scarborough Medicinal Chemistry Award, American Association for the Advancement of Science, University of Illinois University Scholar, National Merit Scholar of India. He has published over 260 research papers, edited a book on aspartic acid proteases and holds numerous patents. His research interests include diverse areas of organic, bioorganic, and medicinal chemistry with particular emphasis on organic synthesis and protein-structure-based design of biomolecules.

Sandra Gemma graduated cum Laude in Medicinal Chemistry at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Siena (1998) where she also received her Ph.D. degree (2003). She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Illinois at Chicago in Professor Ghosh's laboratory (2004 to 2005). She then moved back to the University of Siena where she was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Pharmacy (2006-present). She also visited the Department of Chemistry at Purdue University as a research assistant in the Ghosh group (2008 and 2012). In 2014, Dr. Gemma received the National scientific qualification for the role of Associate Professor. Her research activity is currently focused on the structure- and ligand-based design of therapeutic agents, anti-HIV and anti-Alzheimer therapeutics, ligands for GPCRs and ion channels, and antimalarial drugs. She has authored more than 65 papers and patents in these fields.

Amazing Insight Into Self Confindence

As an individual who speaks both on stage and on the radio I found this book to be extremely helpful. It is never easy to public speak, to put yourself out there and be judged. However, in the pages of this book I found some real nuggets of powerful information that I believe can transform anyone into a confident ,poised speaker. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone, not just people who speak. It can help with every aspect of human contact, from getting a job,public speaking, to talking your way out of a ticket, to parent teachers conference, to getting into college. This book is filled with advice on how to handle your on voice so the world hears the message you intended. Very powerful!

A great book for anyone with a fear of public speaking

This book is a must have for anyone dealing with a fear of public speaking. For years I have darn right terrified with public speaking. Jezra Kaye book not only showed me what mistakes I was specifically making with regards to presenting my speeches, but offered easy and simple instructions on how to improve my presentations.

These skills are important as they can be transferred to so many areas in your daily life, from putting together a presentation for work, talking at a local PTA meeting, or church, to interviewing for that next job. I highly recommend this book!

A very clear book :)

This is a fine book from an author who collaborated with other writers to make a book that clearly explains the common diseases that disturb the human body and its organ systems.
What makes this book so good is that before the book discusses about the various diseases that affect the organ systems of the body, you get a preceding chapter that explains the physiology of that organ system when homeostatically normal. This allows the student a quick review and allows the student to compare the behavior of the organ system's state when it is healthy to when it is altered by disease. Additionally, this book comes with an excellent studyguide to help the student focus on what is important about the various diseases, syndromes and conditons that can make the body unhealthy. The CD that comes with this book is a great educational tool as well. The writers and the publishers of this book did a very fine job of making sure all the tools are in place to help the student appreciate and understand pathophysiology and its importance in the health field.
This book also has good color pictures of how various diseases look and flow charts of how the disease progresses or manifests.
The only problem with this book(a minor problem) is that some diseases are not discussed deeply enough. I think that since this is a pathophysiology book, it should go more indepth with the common diseases. An example is the disease glacoma. I'm not sure if it covers glacoma but if it did, it did not cover the signs and symptoms of it enough. It needs to focus on the mechanism of the disease on a cellular level as well as on an organ level. There are some diseases in which the signs, symptoms and diagnosis is well portrayed but the mechnisms are not. Also it needs to focus less on the treatment of the disease and more on the diagnosis IMHO, however that is disputable becuae that is just my opinion.
Overall this is a fine book. I guess in time this book will have some new improvement when the new editions come out. Good book.

Good for nurses or for any interested layperson

This book gives you a good introduction to pathophysiology without being very technical. Even if you are not a medical professional, you will still grasp the concepts because the author gives simple but adequate definition of the disease and its underlying causes. I am a career switcher (switched to RN) and this book worked for me.

Excellent Book

Extremely well written, well edited. Also includes the basic physiology so don't feel intimidated if you're not fresh on that. Well organized. Covers all aspects, such as normal versus "abnormal", pathogenesis, sequelae, pharmacology, etc. In short, it's very complete. Yet very readable. Of all my nursing and biology books, this is one of my favorites.

Of all the Vogue books, this one reveals the magazine at its most creative. Poznick's vison is original. The collection of photos here are the ones that I plucked from the pages of Vogue and plastered over my desk for inspiration. Color saturated shots and use of of negative space....completely new. Dazzling, diabolical, and wildly romantic viewpoint. And I will always love "Football Face"!
