Not quite a page-turner, but this book presents good applications of tensor math. Sometimes difficult to follow, the book omits many "assumed" steps. However, a fine escape into the world of absolute differential calculus.

It also keeps an account on what Gregorio Ricci Curbastro had previously estabilished on Tensors. I think it's a wonderful occasion, to study from the original papers of the authors of a theory, though they are generally somehow obscure, with respect to textbooks. Comprehensive, yet easy to follow

I've always been interested in programming, so I enjoy collecting books on the subject. Granted, I've learned not to expect too much when it comes to the free/low priced books, which was what made this one such a nice surprise. The structure is excellent, the exercises fully explained and easy to understand, whether you're an absolute novice or someone who's trying to brush up on prior knowledge. Learning a new programming language always seems like a daunting task, but this book stays true to what it advertises: it really does help you progress quickly, making it possible to learn C++ in a single day. Definitely one I'd recommend for any aspiring programmer, and I look forward to checking out other books by this author!

C++ in 8 hours is a great book for anyone looking to learn C++ from scratch. I have never used any coding language before and I am an absolute beginner meaning a lot of material I have read before this was over my head. The book is clear, well-written and teaches you in an easy to follow way. The book delivers is promises and teaches you C++ in around 8 hours. I have now moved onto some of the more advanced books I had purchased but now I can understand them and I already know the basics.

Overall a great book to get you started with C++. Easy to follow even for absolute beginners and delivers exactly what it promises on the cover.

I couldn't recommend this book more. It's fantastic resource. I've studied C++ in classes and on my own with other resources, and this book is definitely one of the best, clearest resources for understanding the language.
The information in the book is good, it is concise and easy to follow for beginners. Sometimes it is hard to follow some books but this one does a very good job of breaking the subjects down into chapters and building from chapter to chapter with clear explanations. I think that the author have a great deal of experience in C++ as well as making it very easy to apply. This is something just for anyone who is looking for a great step by step guide in C++ programming.

The Chassis Designers Bible, Amen

There is yet to be a book written, that describes the why's and how's of designing a light-weight, high-performance sports car chassis in a more informative, yet pleasantly readable style than "Racing and Sports Car Chassis Design". There are other, more contemporary titles on this topic, and having read many of them, I have a strong impression that their authors were much influenced by this book; perhaps having studied it in their college and university years. That would not be surprising, for it is forty years since the author, Michael Costin, then Development Director of Lotus Cars Ltd., with technical writer David Phipps and automotive artist, James A. Allington completed what was to be acclaimed by the industry, and motoring enthusiasts, as the Chassis Designers' Bible.
Costin was also a chief chassis designer at Lotus Engineering, one-time home of many of the most creative and innovative thinkers in the history of motor-sports. He later became the Cos' of Cosworth fame. Quite a motor-sports pedigree!
The theory and basic principles of chassis design, including methods for chassis stress calculation, plotting suspension geometry, and selecting materials for a winning space-frame chassis are all comprehensively covered. The text is classically crafted, making this a reference book for the `coffee table' reader too. It is complemented with excellent illustrations and (now historical) photographs, and the reader will enjoy a revealing treatise from a fascinating period in motor-sports development. Reference to the appendices explaining the essential mathematical calculations, tables of materials specifications and the glossary will assist understanding of the engineering principles, and will be invaluable to the novice chassis designer. This is the material that contemporary writers have often, unfortunately, left out.
The sections on suspension, while now dated, examine the conflicting forces that influence road-holding and vehicle dynamics, and assess the advantages and disadvantages of the various suspension types then in use. The technology may have developed, but the principles that applied then still apply today, and would be readily recognized by todays engineering student.
If you are a motorsports enthusiast, and particularly one interested in building your own racing or sports car, then this book, though now out of print, is well worth the search. Of course, if you are planning to build a monocoque, or a composite-bodied racer, then you'll have to supplement this book with more recent titles.
As a current Lotus-Seven-inspired-sportscar builder, I value and constantly refer to my copy, and strongly recommend it to like-minded enthusiasts.

The Original and Still the Best Book on Tubular Spaceframes

If you are thinking of building a "Locost" replica of the Lotus Seven according to Ron Champion's Build Your Own Sports Car for as Little as £250 and Race It!, you would be well advised to consult this book to see how Champion's design could be improved. As reviewer Ian Carter can probably attest, a chassis built straight from Champion's book will not pass the Australian government's mandatory test of torsional rigidity. A Web search for "Locost" will yield thousands of hits from which you can eventually dig out some minor improvements to the Locost chassis that will allegedly double its stiffness. But if the principles so clearly presented by Costin and Phipps were applied in a complete redesign, the chassis stiffness could probably be doubled again due to improved triangulation and the use of round rather than square tubing. (Sure, square tubing is easier to weld but structurally it's equivalent to round tubing that has already collapsed on four sides!)

the best book in existence on automobile chassis design

Mike Costin was chassis designer at Lotus, and also co-founded Cosworth.
This book shows, in brief and clear style, how to design a fully triangulated space-frame type chassis that will carry loads as efficiently as possible,and how to design a suspension to give both good ride and good roadholding.
If you wish to design a modern day car using a tubular space frame, this book is absolutely essential. It will be very helpful as well to those wanting to design ultralight mileage record or solar cars. Even designers of monocoque chassis will find excellent ideas as to where their load paths should be going, and how their suspension movement should be controlled.
Don't be put off by the fact that the book is almost 40 years old. If you plan to build a space frame, find a copy.

About the Author
Bonnie Greenwell, Ph.D. holds a doctorate in Transpersonal Psychology and certifications in Ashtanga and Kundalini Tantra yoga. tremendous resource

This is the one book to have, that explains the kundalini awakening. This is an absoulte must have book, for all those who practice yoga or meditation. It shows in detail how kundalini awakens and the symptoms that often come with it such as sweating, shaking, visions, changes in breathing and heart beat patterns and so forth. Many people who meditate long enough have experienced these and other symptoms and dont know what is going on. What is going on is that they have awakened kundalini and that this energy is working to clear out negative energy and transforming them to a higher and better state of being. The results of meditation can be terrifying if one is not informed of what is going on. This book does a superb job in explaining what is happening. Simply a great book.

The one book to have on Kundalini

For those experiencing or interested in the process of Kundalini awakening, this is the one book to have. Dr. Greenwell writes clearly and intelligently about the broad range of experiences that can occur when this powerful energy awakens, including case histories of a variety of gurus, saints, and everyday people, and about the yogic view of energy and the chakras. She offers useful advice on how to handle the intense psychic and physical phenomena that is a frequent by-product of active Kundalini energy, reassurance that spiritual awakening indeed exists and you aren't crazy, and the importance of allowing the awakening to unfold once it has begun.
I bought this book several years ago and continue to turn to it time and time again as questions about Kundalini arise.

Good resource but misses the mark

This book is an important addition to the literature on Kundalini mysteries and is admirable (but not exhaustive) in its research of the literature itself. However, I feel that, in drawing conclusions from the divergent information gleaned without a seeming ability to satisfactorily distinguish esoteric metaphor from Indoasian philosophy and pseudoscience from Western science and pseudoscience, the author contributes to more pseudoscience on the subject. In Chapter 5, the author presents biographical sketches of historic personages, many of whom exemplify the extremes of the Kundalini process. Interestingly, in noting Sri Yogananda, she reports, almost dejectedly, that devotees of his path in whom Kundalini processes are awakened generally do not experience adverse effects. Without delving into why this is so and exploring other Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, Sikh, and Yogic lineages that present methods for gradual catharsis of consciousness and neurology (which is what the Kundalini process essentially is), she misses the real mystery of Kundalini, the "why" of how things go awry, and the key to helping individuals who experience untoward effects. I feel that the author presents bits of information but not essential understanding or definition of the Kundalini process. It would have been better if this book was simply a straightforward compilation of anecdotes from the literature with some case studies and clinical psychological profiles thrown in rather than a piece offering so much commentary and conjecture.

About the Author
Thomas A. Timberg is a scholar and consultant on economic development. His writings cover subjects ranging from Baghdadi Jews in India to contemproary microfinance and Islamic finance.
