Non-Cook Prepares 5 Dinners a Week Now Thanks to Real Paleo

I am a recent Paleo convert and I chose this book because of the title. Other Paleo cookbooks looked good, but these recipes looked tasty and easy to make. I also felt that trying the cookbook by the leader in Paleo was probably a good idea. I have tried several "Fast and Easy Recipe" cookbooks, and have been disappointed that the recipes were neither fast, easy nor tasty. I can say that Cordain's Real Paleo cookbook is filled with fast, easy and tasty recipes. I am not a chef, so I am thrilled to put a healthy dinner on the table in an hour or less. In time, I am sure I will be able to prepare these meals in 30 minutes. I must admit that I prior to this purchase, I have had little success preparing daily meals for my family: I have felt accomplished if I prepared 2 of 5 weekday meals. I have used Cordain's cookbook for 3 weeks now. After the first week, I wanted to write a review, but thought I had better give it more time before shouting from the mountain tops. This is a fabulous book. I have prepared 15 different recipes from this book, and every meal has been well received from all my children and my husband. I am now able to consistently prepare 5 meals a week for my family. I cannot recommend this book enough. The only possible downside is that he does not use salt. I have been true to the recipes except twice when I added salt to the scallops and one time to a flank steak. Since my problem prior to beginning Paleo was sugar, these saltless recipes are not a problem for me; I appreciate the flavors of the recipes. My kids and husband sometimes add Spike. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Although the recipes are truly Paleo they are not as fast and easy as I would have liked. It seems most recipes call for added
recipes (sauces, spice mixures, dressings) to make the dishes which can be time consuming. I would have liked recipes to
be a bit simpler as I am new to this type of diet.

This is my favorite paleo cookbook to date. Love the quick meals in 30 minutes or less. Easy recipes to make and follow. He does not salt anything but in most cases, it's fine without it. I do find myself adding a tad of salt to some but overall, this is filled with many tasty easy to make recipes. Have made over 30 recipes in the short time I've had it and the majority are very good.

17 year olds review of WILD WILD WEST!

Children of the Wild West follows the daily lives of children on the trails of the old west. From migrating to building, this book covers everything you might want to know about children in the west.

In this book several stories are created to give a feel for what it was like to live as a child during the times when the West was still "Wild". These stories, sometimes, makes you feel like you're right there on the dusty trail hunting down a pack of escaped cattle. It also gives you the chance to judge the right and wrongs of these times on your own.

It was interesting that the book also covered Native Americans in the West. It was enthralling to read about the boarding schools which Native Americans had to go to, and the harsh treatment in which they were forced to endure. This gives the book a more well rounded feel and makes it much more interesting.

Overall Children of the Wild West is a very good book about the lives of growing children in the West. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a light read on the subject.

How Immigrant & Indian Children Lived (Starting ~ 1841)

Russell Freedman did an exceptional job with this book; it zeroes in on the immigrant children’s’ experience of going West as well as the indigenous Indian children’s lives before, during and after interaction with the white settlers.

The photos selected were exceptional and eye-opening. My favorite aspect of the photos selected centered on the variety of tribal children photographed. I don’t think I will ever forget the two sets of photos of Indian children as they entered Indian Training Schools (schools that taught Indians how to become white) and how they had changed 14 or 15 months later. There was no spark of joy or happiness in any of these ‘chosen’ children.

Most books talk about the life in the US and the Territories from an adult’s perspective. This volume focuses on life amongst the younger population; it is wonderful.

Currently, Dr. El-Reedy is responsible for reliability, inspection, and maintenance strategy for onshore concrete structures and offshore steel structure platforms. I forgot the old adage and was seduced by the dazzling photo on the cover, but that was where my joy ended. To put it simply this book was very DISAPPOINTING!
My first problem was that after the author went into a lengthy diatribe about the importance of a well made primary block, (which all her secondary blocks are made from), she gave no instructions on how to make one.
The book continues along this vein of vagueness and half-explanations, which means one would need to have enough previous pattern-cutting experience in order to fill in the blanks. Therefore I would say this book is definetly NOT for beginners because most will be very confused.
I dont think the book will be very usefull to the advanced pattern cutter either because the styles she explains are very basic and you would probably have come across them in other patterncutting books where they were not being touted as "eveningwear".
The book also mentions draping in its title, which I find laughable as it covers draping on a total of THREE pages and with the exception of a cowl-neck top, I dont think ruching bits of fabric across the shoulders really qualifies as draping.
Suffice to say I do not recommend this book to ANYONE, as I found it totally useless, and I only gave it one star for the pretty picture on the cover which I shall frame to remind me CAVEAT EMPTOR!

How to Draft a Strapless Bodice Sloper for Evening Wear!

This book is not for beginners in dress drafting. But even though I'm a novice, I did find the information informative... drafting dressy clothes requires starting with a different sloper rather than the slopers used in the drafting of regular daytime garments. The books on this subject are hard to find and limited, so this book would still be helpful for someone seeking information on drafting evening garments. I believe it is meant to be a supplement to further study. I would say that it would help someone who already is intermediate or advanced in drafting to start exploring drafting evening garments. I did enjoy this book very much!

Simple brilliance punctuated with suspect concepts

This was my text for Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary's Survey of Christian Doctrine (THEO 510). The book coincides with video lectures Dr. Towns recorded. Dr. Towns hails from a mild dispensational stance that believes in pretrib/premil eschatology, all to which I agree. He is conservative in theology, and, I believe, sound in major concepts. He holds a high view of Scripture, which shines through in its use in this text.

This is the second class I have taken under Dr. Towns, and both times he wrote the textbook. The other was an Evangelism and Church Growth class, and I am happy to say that this text (Theology for Today) is MUCH, MUCH better than the other text. Theology for Today has only minor grammatical, spelling and formatting issues. But, for the price (between $70 and $100 depending on where you buy...I paid $77 + s/h), you would expect a perfectly polished text. This text is actually bound professionally, unlike some of his other texts which were put together with plastic binding found at Kinko's (literally). The outline format is haphazard at times.

I said in the title that this text was simple brilliance punctuated with suspect concepts. Let me start with the positive first. Dr. Towns explains complex issues with clarity and provides very useful lists of evidence supporting theologies, such as the prophecies foretelling of Christ. There are great exegetical concepts cataloged in Towns' text that are usually left out of other theology texts. He frequently references Strong, Hodge and Scofield (at least much more than other authors.) On the other hand, Dr. Towns states several times in his course that definitive answers can be found for some highly debatable concepts. It is under these debatable concepts that he tends to lose me. He makes some sweeping generalizations in his chapters on demonology, satanology and angelology that have tenuous Scriptural support. Long-story-short, he goes confidently out on a limb and doesn't give enough Scriptural support in these chapters. Likewise, while not a Calvinist or an Arminian, he uses mostly Calvinistic writers' critiques of Arminianism. This leads to a narrow straw man view of Arminianism. He makes some claims of science in his very very short intro to the creation/evolution debate and he does so without references. To me, this is poor form, as critiques of science without references to some reliable source are of limited value. He has plenty of sources listed on other topics, and I wondered why he didn't reference his short foray into science. (In his book, his science is decent, but in the video he confused the big bang theory with the theory of the Cambrian explosion, so I would like to see his sources on other things regarding science.)

This text includes a glossary, an index of persons and an index of Scripture.

If you can get this text used at half the price of a new book (preferably somewhere in the $30 to $40 range), it is worth adding to your library. While I will rely on my copy of Erickson's "Christian Theology" and other theologies before this text, Theology for Today will remain on my shelf, and I will look to it for reference when situations dictate.

Theology for Today

I am not going to go into any detail with the book as that has been done extensively. However, it must be known that Theology for Today is an introductory theology book. Meaning, it will convey and advocate some concepts that are not totally clear, while condemning others without giving a fuller explanation. Again, it is not an advanced systematic theology (by the way, neither is Grudem's). This book was designed for undergraduates to spoon-feed their beliefs without necessarily having to weigh ALL of the evidence. That will come later in other, deeper theology classes. So before condemning this book, consider the context in which it was written. For students who know practically nothing about theology. Change your major to theology and you will go deeper to what you are looking for. Then go to seminary and go even deeper than that and deal with the really hard issues. Towns, Grudem, and Erricson (Christian Theology) all have the same goal, just do it different ways. Town's may be the lesser of the three, but it does not deserve the trash can by any means.It is not a four or five volume book on theology.

I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I did!

Pushing Up People is one of the greatest books I have ever read in a LONG TIME. I thing if you need a possitive attituid this is the book you should get. It tells you that you can do any thing if it is really in your heart. I am only 14 years old and it has helped me save my money and do better in school. So if you find this kind of stuff interesting you should really read this book! I am sure if you can't afford the book it is probubly at your local libary.

The best , most elegant, but most difficult philosophy.

Managing and leading people is one of life's most difficult tasks. Mr. Williams understands that people are emotional, not logicaly, and his "Pushing Up People" philosophy is based on this tenet.
This book is not filled with Ivy League, Ph.d., fancy-schmancy paradigms, techniques or such. It is, however, filled with down-to-earth people skills that are effective (but difficult to master!)

My Review

This is an excellent book, has solid research and is very professional. Several times Susan Berk-Seligson (the author) is quoted in other authoritative works on the subject. However, my only critique with this work is how many mistakes there were in the Spanish grammar and renderings in English. For such a professional and high level work, the author, now in at least her second if not third edition still has glaring errors of the simplist type, somewhat embarassing to those of us who truly are bilingual. It's just kind of ironic how the whole point of the book is how important it is to pay attention to minor and many times disregarded elements of speech like register, hedges, false starts, tone and additions in order to faithfully interpret into the Target Language. Yet Susan Berk-Seligson or her editing team has not taken into consideration, in at least two editions, how weak her argument becomes and how much credibility she loses when one considers how blatent and glaring her own mistakes are in several translations in her book. Overall, however, it is a must read for anyone thinking of going into court interpretation.

About the Author

Barbara Robinson has written several popular books for children, including My Brother Louis Measures Worms, The Best School Year Ever, The Best Halloween Ever, and the enormously popular bestselling novel The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, first published in 1972, which was made into a classic TV movie and on which this book was based. The play The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is produced annually in theaters, schools, and churches all over the world. Ms. Robinson has two daughters and three grandchildren.

This book is an annual read for me. I love the way the story brings out the humanism of the Savior's birth. It reminds me that His birth wasn't the sanitary and immaculately unrealistic birth we seem to imagine. Joseph and Mary were real people with real feelings and they lived in the real world. The stable would not have been clean and had an abundance of fresh clean straw. Not with the crowds of people and animals that were there to be taxed. Barbara Robinson did a wonderful job of bringing out the reality of the conditions surrounding the Savior's birth through her insight that is so beautifully woven into this book. It will remain on my annual list of books to read at Christmas time for as long as I can continue to read, and after that I hope to be able to listen to it from a recording of some sort. I highly recommend this book to everyone that is searching for a story that will bring out the true meaning of Christmas.

If you know anything at all about how things are usually done in churches, you'll howl over this.

This book has been out for years and I still reread it every few years. It's told from the prospective of a young girl, about 10 or 12 years old. Her church has a busybody who runs everything. When the woman gets hurt, they farm out all the things she's got going (the Potluck Supper, etc) to various other ladies. The mother of the girl who's telling the story gets stuck with the Christmas Pageant. Things are going as usual until the Herdmans show up. The Herdmans are the worst kids in the whole history of the world. Things go downhill from there, with hilarious results. But, in the end, everyone is shown a deeper meaning to the Christmas Story; one that they had forgotten in the bustle of busyness. It makes a good book to read and it also makes a good movie to watch. The movie stars Loretta Swit (of M*A*S*H) who plays the part of the woman forced to run a Christmas Pageant perfectly. Both book and movie are classics and old favorites in my family.

Do you like stories that are one of a kind special

Are you a family person. Do you like stories that are one of a kind special. If so then this story is one you need to have in your collection. The Herdmans are your typical terror in the town. This story show what happens when they finally understand what Christmas is all about. This classic story will have your kids asking for you to read it all over again. My family loves the pictures and descriptions of the charioteers. For example Alice Windalkin is described as being so clean in body and spirit she had detergent clean hands by the time she was two. I hope your family will love this book as much as mine.
