The Book of the Law, by Aleister Crowley

"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law."

Dictated to Crowley in Cairo between noon and 1:00p.m. on three successive days in April 1904, The Book of the Law is the source book and key for Crowley students and for the occult in general.

The holy text that forms the basis of Crowley's belief system, Thelema, was transmitted to him by the entity known as Aiwass over the course of three fateful April days in 1904.

With his wife Rose as the medium for what would become known as the Cairo Working, Crowley dutifully transcribed the communications on hotel stationery.

The pamphlet has since passed into occult legend.

Its full title is Liber AL vel Legis, sub figura CCXX, as delivered by XCIII=418 to DCLXVI, and it is commonly referred to as The Book of the Law.

Although the "messenger" of AL was Aiwass, Aiwass presents the Book as an expression of three god-forms of the three chapters, Nuit, Hadit, and Ra-Hoor-Khuit.

Crowley's cornerstone work.
By The Dungeon Master
Aleister Crowley's cornerstone work is written in this book. However, this book is not for the feint of heart. Those who wish to read this book for the first time will be lost, and their mind blown. I would recommend the following curriculum when reading this book:

1. Read the Book of the Law.

2. Read Equinox of the Gods. This book as a standalone work is no longer in print, however you can acquire it by purchasing Crowley's Book 4 (which also contains this work as well). This book explains the origins of the Book of the Law and how to read it.

3. Read the Book of the Law again. Now you should have a better understanding of the work and not feel so lost in what seems to be a drug-induced ramble.

This is a pretty hard book to get through, although the Book of the Law itself is only about 100 pages long, if that. The book also contains the original manuscript with it, if you are interested in trying to read Crowley's hieroglyphs.

This book is for people who want to start studying Crowley, or for people who are advance magicians, or people who are interested in the O.T.O or the A.-.A.-., or simply just into metaphysical studies.

Excellent Quality
By Jon Dulin
This book should be judged according to its own merits. Therefore, the question of whether or not this book deserves five stars comes down to quality of binding and layout of the text. I will attest to the quality of this book's construction. The layout of the text is also pleasing to the eyes. These are enough for me to rate it five stars.

I found one review saying that the quality of the binding was not good. This is simply not true.

Thelemic sacred text book
By Kateyes
So the average reader might read the first chapter, if that..realistically the first page, and think it's just rantings by a mad man, the "devil worshipper". The problem was that Crowley was and still is vilified by the church. When a person sees you reading Crowley you get the "dirty look". Those that do study Crowley's work know it's his works are very in depth and can be quite clever. My favorite quote is "Every man and woman is a star". Sounds insane, but the meaning is so perfectly explained in Lon Milo DuQuette's "Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot". I find that DuQuette is able to "decode" some of the more crazier parts of Crowley's works.
The Book of the Law is the "sacred text" of Thelema. It was supposively dictated to Crowley on his wedding night from an entity named Aiwass. The book only has 3 chapters, in the 1st person perspectives of Thelemic deities Nuit, Hadit, and Ra-Hoor-Khuit. The Book of the Law may be short in pages, but the amount of knowledge is intense and should be revisited as I find with most Crowley works, you just seem to find or understand more each time. So to completely review this book, it's difficult to explain to those that have not read it. It is not a "read through" book. It's very rich and loaded with interesting logic.
